Learning about circuits
The current needs a path in order to keep flowing. That path is called a circuit.
There are three things necessary to create a circuit: an energy source, a connection, and a load.
- The energy source can be an electric cell, such as a battery, or it can be a generator, which is what our power companies such as Niagara Mohawk use to create large amounts of electricity. Light switches and other electric things in your home are powered by generators far away and carried to your home in wires.
- The connection for a circuit is a substance which is a good conductor, such as a copper wire. We will learn more about conductors soon.
- Last, the load is the part operated by electricity, such as a light bulb or TV.
