Do you know how electricity can be made?
An electric generator works with both electricity and magnetism to make
electricity from the movement of coils of wire within the magnetic
field of a permanent magnet. In one type of generator, an energy source
like falling water (Niagara water falls) is used to turn large wheels
that turn large coils of wire within the magnetic field of a permanent
magnet shaped like a horseshoe. This causes a current of electricity
to run through the coiled wires. The current is directed and send through
wires to the lights and other things powered by electricity. So if
your lights go out, you could use another energy source like water,
sun light, or wind (not electricity) to run a wheel that would turn
coils of wire within the magnetic field of a permanent magnet which
would create a current of electricity in the wires for your lights.
The only problems are that you would have to figure out how to keep
the wheel turning at a consistent rate (keep turning fast enough to
create just enough and not too little or too much electricity) and
how to hook up the coils of wire to your lights.
